(Cover) - EN Movies - Giovanni Ribisi has joined the cast of The Gangster Squad.

The American actor, who is best known for his roles in Avatar, Public Enemies and Gone in 60 Seconds, will join Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin in the upcoming police drama movie.

Giovanni will play a member of the police force, Conway Keeler. According to Deadline, his character is a tech expert who helps the team with surveillance.

Ryan, Josh, Anthony Mackie, and Michael Pena will also play members of the police department who have the mission of stopping mobster Mickey Cohen, played by Sean.

The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer and is set in Los Angeles during the 1940s.

The Warner Bros. project has been adapted by former police officer Will Beal and is based on a series of Los Angeles Time articles recalling the work of a LAPD team's efforts to ruling out corruption in the city.

There has not been a start date set for shooting yet, but Ruben is in pre-production. (C) Cover Media
