The London premiere of the highly anticipated final movie in the Harry Potter franchise takes place today, and critics have begun to offer their opinions ahead of its international release next week.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's chief film critic Todd McCarthy the movie is an "outstanding capper" to the franchise.

"It ends well," wrote Todd. "After eight films in ten years and a cumulative global box-office take of more than $6.3 billion, the most successful franchise in the history of movies comes to an obligatory - and quite satisfying - conclusion in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2."

The final movie sees the return of lead characters Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson respectively. In the final chapter of the wizard-themed adventure the three youngsters carry on in their quest to bring down the evil Lord Voldemort, played by Ralph Fiennes.

Philip Womack, writing for British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, has also spoken positively of the picture, with particular praise for director David Yates. He argues that the movie has in fact added elements of grandeur that J.K. Rowling, writer of the original books, failed to achieve.

"Perhaps the greatest triumph of this final film is its ability to overcome the deficiencies of J.K' Rowling's writing," wrote Philip.

"In the last Harry Potter volume, she failed singularly to muster the epic feel needed; as a result, on the page, the concluding battle at Hogwarts was a damp squib. But Yates here transmutes it into a genuinely terrifying spectacle, as bloodied students fight desperately against a horde of screaming black-robed Death Eaters." (C) Cover Media
