Giuliana Rancic admits that she is "scared" about her upcoming operation.

The 36-year-old American television presenter will undergo a double mastectomy next week.

In the lead up to her breast cancer surgery on Tuesday, Giuliana admits that she is frightened to go under the knife.

"I think I'm definitely scared of the unknown," Giuliana told RadarOnline in a joint interview with her husband Bill on Thursday.

"I'm scared because I've never done this before, but I have Bill with me."

Although Giuliana fears what may happen as a result of the procedure, she remains in positive spirits.

"[I'm] scared, [but] I am going to survive," she declared.

Giuliana and Bill act as each other's support systems through this crisis.

They look forward to a future without cancer.

"We have a finish line," Bill said.

"That's what New Year's is. Let's be done with this and start off 2012 on the right foot. This New Year's is going to be more meaningful than any New Year's of the past."

Giuliana confirmed she had breast cancer earlier in October.

A lumpectomy she had last month failed to remove all the disease and she has now decided to undergo a double mastectomy.

Giuliana will have reconstructive surgery on her breasts the same day she has the mastectomy.
