DiCaprio is known moreover for playing characters who are either conflicted, intensely emotional or of those who have suffered a loss of trauma. He played one such character in Christopher Nolan's mind-boggling sci-fi, Inception (2010). He is also known for playing period films or real-life individuals. As a matter of fact, J. Edger, a biographical film based on the career of FBI director, J. Edgar Hoover, where plays the title character, released today worldwide.
DiCaprio was born on November 11, 1974, in Los Angeles, California. He is the only child of Irmelin Indenbirken, a former legal secretary of German origin, and George DiCaprio, an underground comic artist and producer-distributor of comic books. DiCaprio was named Leonardo because his pregnant mother was looking at a Leonardo Da Vinci painting in a museum in Italy, when DiCaprio first kicked. He graduated from John Marshall High School after attending the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies for four years.
DiCaprio pursued his acting career by working for several commercials and educational films. His first commercial break was for a short-lived television series, based on the movie Parenthood, followed by The Lassie, Roseanne and Santa Barbara.
DiCaprio's debut film was a sci-fi horror named Critters 3. He made his big screen breakthrough in 1992, when he was handpicked by Robert De Niro out of 400 young actors for the lead role in This Boy's Life, and then there was no looking back. Ever since, he has bagged awards and accolades for maximum of his movies, few of which are, Romeo + Juliet (1996), Titanic (1997), The Beach (2000), Catch Me If You Can (2002), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), Blood Diamond (2006), Revolutionary Road (2008), Shutter Island (2010) and the very recent, Inception (2010).
DiCaprio's romantic relationships have always been in the spotlight. Till date he has had on-and-off relationships a number of models, namely, Kristen Zang, Emma Miller, Gisele Bündchen, Bar Refaeli, and recently, actress Blake Lively.
