(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Helena Bonham Carter blames herself for being typecast as a period drama actress.
The 44-year-old has been working in the industry since the 1980s, appearing in 1985s A Room with a View and 1986 costume drama at the beginning of her career.
Helena believes her tendency to star period films when she began acting may have skewed public perception of her ability.
I sort of created my own typecasting because I wouldnt stop doing them. But no one likes being pinned down with a label. I suppose I was a bit p***ed off being told I was always a pale tubercular thing. But you cant ever set out to change the way people think about you, she told Total Film magazine.
Despite public misconceptions, Helena insists she doesnt have a genre preference. The British star prefers to look for roles with substance rather than prevailing themes.
No, I like character parts, to be honest. But anything that is beautifully written, she added. (C) Cover Media
