Helena Bonham Carter: I timed Firths stories

26th November 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Helena Bonham Carter had to use a stopwatch to curb her The Kings Speech co-star Colin Firths anecdotes.

The British movie stars appear together in the historical drama, which tells the remarkable tale of Britains King George VI and his struggle to overcome a stutter when he became monarch.

Veteran actor Geoffrey Rush also appears in the film, with he and Colins friendship blossoming between takes. As much as she loved working with the pair, Helena admits she found Geoffrey and Colins constant story telling between scenes rather wearing and had to come up with a method to stop them chatting so much.

"Colin and Geoffrey are raconteurs," she told USA Today. "It's amazing that the film got made at all. When either one started an anecdote, a stopwatch came out. It couldn't last longer than a minute.

The film was helmed by celebrated British director Tom Hooper, known for his work in television and movies such as The Damned United. Helena has revealed the talented moviemaker didnt have much of a chance to give any direction whenever Geoffrey and Colin were telling one of their famous tales.

It's no wonder Tom was forced into a position of muteness with Geoffrey and Colin in the same room, she laughed. (C) Cover Media
