Hollywood mourns Ernest Borgnine

Beloved actor Ernest Borgnine passed away in Los Angeles at the age of 95 Sunday.

The legendary Hollywood star, who won an Oscar for his groundbreaking role in 1955 film Marty, perished from renal failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre. His representatives confirm to the Associated Press that Ernest was surrounded by loved ones in his final moments at the hospital.

Gary Sinise will miss Ernest's presence.

"God bless Ernest Borgnine. An amazingly strong spirit. R.I.P. Ernie (sic)," Gary posted on Twitter Sunday.

Actress Kirstie Alley is also sad to say goodbye to her dear colleague.

"Ernest Borgnine... You will be missed... I'm blessed to have worked with you...RIP sweet, talented friend," she tweeted.

Ernest was working well into his golden years and was most recently acclaimed for voicing Mermaid Man in Nickelodeon animated series SpongeBob SquarePants.

He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from SAG in 2011.
