December 9, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): For some women, even age cannot make them timid. Outspoken to the point of being brutally honest, British actor Helen Mirren criticized Hollywoods male preoccupation for worshipping "at the altar of the 18 to 25-year-old male and his penis". She publicly mourned the professional demise of many brilliant women of her time and was appalled to see how mediocre male actors have survived it and carried their work on. She made these comments at the Hollywood Reporter's yearlyPower 100 Women in Entertainment event.
Speaking at a breakfast ceremony to felicitate 100 most powerful women in entertainment, Mirren observed that change in the way a woman is portrayed on screen is only due to what real women in real life have achieved socially, professionally, and personally. All the drama of the literary world ever written would have 20 something male characters but only 2 or 3 female ones. And that also includes Shakespeare, incidentally, Mirren added.
The Queen star also criticized all those people who still call her sexy and termed it as blooding relevant. She said that labeling an actress sexy puts more pressure on a woman. In spite of all this, Bond Girl Halle Berry praised her and said that she is one person who has aged and still manages to do successful movies and look hot as hell.
The Women in Entertainment Power 100 list was led by Disney/ABC Television Group chief Anne Sweeney, followed by Amy Pascal, co-chairman, Sony Pictures Entertainment and NBC Universal Cable Entertainment head Bonnie Hammer. The Power 100 list also includes author of the hit Twilight Stephanie Meyer, the Kardashian Sisters Kim, Koutney and Khloe, lippy lass Angelina Jolie, chat show host Oprah Winfrey and Sandra Bullock.
