Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who made pulse polio campaign successful, is hoping the same for his new initiative, BMC's Tuberculosis awareness campaign.
The actor shared an unknown fact about himself at a recent event held in Mumbai; the actor said that he had contracted TB in the year 2000.
Sr. Bachchan said, "I was a TB patient years ago. I have never spoken about it on a public platform, but now is the time. If it could happen to me, it can happen to anyone. I was weak and I had lost appetite. Blood tests revealed that I had TB."
"I was in a good environment and I was fortunate enough to get healthy food. Sometimes, we do get exposed to the disease at certain places. It didn't take me long to agree to be brand ambassador for this campaign."
"Earlier, TB patients were sent to sanitariums but now the best treatment is available here."
He has even featured in an advertisement educating the masses about the dreadful disease and precautions one can take, to curb it.
City's TB officer Dr Minnie Khetarpal said, "When such a big personality accepts he had TB and was cured, imagine the kind of impact it will have on the masses."
