Jack Black believes Kurt Cobain "was the king of rock."
The actor performed a family friendly rendition of Smells Like Teen Spirit, one of the late musician's legendary songs with band Nirvana, in last year's hit Disney film The Muppets.
Kurt's widow Courtney Love told TMZ this week that she felt Jack's kid-friendly cover "raped" the rock star's memory.
Jack doesn't believe he defamed Kurt in any way with his tribute.
"I beg to differ. That's absurd, absurd, absurd," Jack told E! Online this week at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.
"I personally hold no one in higher esteem in the world of rock. Kurt Cobain for me is at the top of the pyramid. He was the king When he died it was sort of the end of rock."
Jack, who has appeared in and lent his voice to several children's films over the years, will continue to make movies for tots. He hopes to unite with Angelina Jolie to make a third Kung Fu Panda animated feature.
"I hope we do," he shared. "The films were really good, but that's not in my control. That's up to the powers far above me. Who knowsit could be Kung Fu Tiger next and I'm out of it. You never know."
Jack voiced the main character Po in parts one and two of the Kung Fu Panda series.
He has also appeared in comedy School of Rock and voiced rambunctious creature Zeke in the 2002 hit animated feature Ice Age.
