(Cover) - EN Movies - Jeff Bridges is making another attempt at adapting Lois Lowry's novel The Giver into a movie.
The veteran actor and producer Nikki Silver have re-acquired the rights to the dystopian story, while Fog writer Vadim Perelman is believed to be taking care of the script.
If the production goes ahead, Jeff is expected to take on the lead role of The Giver himself.
"I originally thought of the role of The Giver as a vehicle for my father, the late Lloyd Bridges," he was quoted as saying. "However, at 61 years old I feel the time is right for me to do it."
The Hollywood star and Silver first began to work on the feature film as early as 2001 and came close to begin production in 2006, but the project ground to a halt.
In 2007, Warner Bros. bought the rights until they recently became available again and Bridges and Silver snapped them up once more.
The Giver tells the story of Jonas, a young boy who grows up in a futuristic society that doesn't suffer from war or pain and doesn't remember historic tragedy. Chosen to become the new Giver, a member of society who singlehandedly stores and remembers the past, he learns what his community has given up by creating a painless existence.
The Big Lebowski star Jeff is said to have become interested in the story when his daughter was reading the book in high school. (C) Cover Media
