(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Disney couldnt stand Johnny Depps portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, according to the actor.
The Hollywood star claimed executives at the media and film company were disdainful towards the eccentric character, which Johnny has been playing since 2003. He enjoys making the pirate as flamboyant as possible, and was astounded when he realised not everyone agrees with his depiction.
The 47-year-old actor made the revelation in the January edition of Vanity Fair magazine, during an interview conducted by rocker Patti Smith. Johnny alleges Disney couldnt stand his portrayal, laughing one worker queried whether the pirate was gay.
The star didnt take offence though, admitting he always tries to give his performances a quirky twist.
The father-of-two was passionate about defending his prized and much-loved character to Disney, even though it was obvious one woman felt on edge around him.
He admitted telling the executives all my characters are gay, then revelling in how nervous it made them.
Johnny is appearing in the fourth film in the franchise called Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 3D, which is due out in 2011 and also stars Penlope Cruz. (C) Cover Media
