Joss Stone: My voice is just loud

18th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Joss Stone is bemused by all the fuss about her voice, arguing that it is "just loud".

The 24-year-old British singer shot to international fame in 2003 with debut record The Soul Sessions, and is currently part of eclectic group SuperHeavy.

Other members of the supergroup include The Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger, Eurythmics star Dave Stewart, reggae icon Bob Marley's son Damian and Indian composer A.R. Rahman.

Dave initially approached Joss about the project as he is enamored with her distinctive soulful voice, although the modest songstress insists there's nothing special about her vocals.

"I think it's just loud and it tricks people. I honestly do, it's just really loud," she laughed in an interview with the BBC.

Meanwhile, Dave was eager to sing Joss' praises. The 58-year-old rocker isn't only impressed with Joss' voice; he also admires her upbeat personality.

"Joss is one of those incredible spirits that's always generous and always up, and a free spirit. But then she has a voice that is from who knows where?" he gushed.

Joss also took the time to chat about the moment she first heard about SuperHeavy, whose self-titled debut record arrives later this year with a fusion of rock, soul, reggae, blues, pop and Indian music. The singer received a telephone call from Dave about the project, and was completely shocked as well as honoured.

"That phone call was the best one. He may as well have asked me to go to the pub for a pint. He was like, Hi Joss. I'm sat here with Mick, we've had this really fun idea, we're gonna make a band. Do you wanna be in my band?'" she recalled, adding that she instantly agreed.

"Then a couple of months later we were in the studio, that's so mad... We get a bit silly which is good." (C) Cover Media
