Kate Winslet recalls Titanic buzz

28th March 2012

Kate Winslet felt like the "young girl coming out of England" when she first shot to fame in Titanic.

The 36-year-old rose to stardom playing Rose Bukater in the hit disaster movie 15 years ago. The movie scored her best actress nominations at the Oscars and the Golden Globes. She has since picked up an Oscar for her work in 2008 film The Reader.

Kate admits landing a role in Titanic was a boost to her career.

"I just felt incredibly excited to have the opportunity. I had filmed Heavenly Creatures and Sense and Sensibility so it was a little bit of a buzz about me, the young girl coming out of England," she told Cover Media at last night's London premiere of the Titanic re-release in 3D.

Kate was still creating a buzz last night as she turned heads at the premiere in a black gown. Producer Jon Landau said it was exhilarating to see Kate at the event as she was unable to make the London premiere for the first release.

"I'm so excited that we're here with Kate Winslet because she wasn't here the first time we premiered the movie," he said.

"So that fact that she's here to support the film is very exciting."

He added the cast and crew had enjoyed catching up and it felt like yesterday that they were filming. Jon says they share a close bond after working on the movie.

"We spent a lot of time earlier today and it was like a high school reunion," he said. You know it's like no time has passed and we're all there and it's great."

Titanic, directed by James Cameron, is based on the passenger linter that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912 after hitting an iceberg on a voyage from Southampton to New York.

The new 3D version is set to be released worldwide from April.
