Katy Perry didn’t want ‘cheesy’ album

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Katy Perry says she struggled to write an “anthem” that didn’t sound “cheesy” for her new album.

The singer is currently promoting Teenage Dream, which features her recent hit California Gurls. Katy says her favourite track on the album is Firework, a song about inspiring everyone to feel special. She is thrilled with her fans’ reaction to the lyrics and is proud of its uplifting message.

“Firework is probably my favourite song off the record," Katy told MTV News. "Like something I'm most proud of.

"People are coming back and almost adopting it as their own anthem, and it's hard, I think, to write an anthem that's not cheesy. And I hope that this could be something in that category. I hope this could be one of those things where it's like, 'Yeah, I want to put my fist up and feel proud and feel strong.'”

Although the star is better known for her quirky, cheeky singles, Katy was determined to test herself by producing deeper lyrics. She describes Firework as her “opus” and believes this track will be the one she is best remembered for.

"It's a fine line, and I think Firework is a real, I guess, it would be like the opus or my one song - if I had to pick a song to play - 'cause it has a great beat. But it also has a fantastic message." (C) Cover Media
