(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Keith Richards once set a Playboy mansion on fire after taking drugs.
The Rolling Stones rocker is famed for his hellraising ways, and has been open about his prolific drug use. In 2007, the star even admitted snorting his fathers ashes after he was cremated.
He has now calmed his wild ways, but in his memoir Life the 66-year-old opens up about some of his more colourful moments. Keith remembers attending a party at the Playboy mansion in Chicago when he was a young man, explaining he was so inebriated he almost caused substantial damage to the property.
[Saxophonist] Bobby [Keys] and I played it a little far when we set fire to the bathroom. Well, we didn't, the dope did. Not our fault. Bobby and I were just sitting in the john, comfortable, nice john, sitting on the floor, and we've got the doc's bag and we're just smorgasbording. 'I wonder what these do?' And at a certain point... talk about hazy, or foggy, Bobby says, 'It's smoky in here.' And I'm looking at Bobby and can't see him, he recalls. And the drapes are smouldering away; everything was just about to go off big-time... There was a thumping on the door, waiters and guys in black suits bringing buckets of water. They get the door open and we're sitting on the floor, our pupils very pinned. I said, 'We could have done that ourselves. How dare you burst in on our private affair?'
Keith also discusses his relationship with bandmate Sir Mick Jagger in the tome. He explains things have changed a lot between in the last few years, and describes the legendary singer as unbearable. He adds he has christened Mick Your Majesty because of the way he likes to be treated.
I used to love Mick, but I haven't been to his dressing room in 20 years. Sometimes I think, 'I miss my friend'. I wonder, 'Where did he go?' he writes. It was the beginning of the 80s when Mick started to become unbearable." (C) Cover Media
