(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kelly Macdonald admits the attention surrounding her new show Boardwalk Empire makes her uncomfortable.

The actress shot to fame with a role in gritty drama Trainspotting in 1996. Since then she has enjoyed success with films including No Country for Old Men and Gosford Park. However, the star has now turned her attentions to the small screen, having landed a role in American television show Boardwalk Empire.

Kelly cant believe how successful the series has been in its first season it picked up two prizes at the Golden Globe Awards recently - and admits the hype can be difficult to cope with.

It makes me a wee bit nervous, she told the British edition of Marie Claire. TV fame is different from cinema, because more people watch. Ive been in popular films, but my private life has been private.

Kelly was born in Scotland and was required to adopt an Irish accent to play immigrant Margaret Schroeder in the show. The 34-year-old star was nervous about getting to grips with the accent and hopes she has done it justice. Kelly has revealed spending time in the US while she films the programme has also led to another member of her family changing the way they speak.

I give myself a hard time with accents, but then I can be less critical about the rest! she explained. My son Freddie is a wee Scottish boy now, but I cant imagine what hes going to sound like next summer!

Boardwalk Empire is set in Atlantic City during the Prohibition era in America. The show stars Steve Buscemi and executive producers include Martin Scorsese and Mark Wahlberg. (C) Cover Media
