(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kelly Rowland won't let anyone tell her what to do.

The singer began her career in the girl band Destiny's Child before pursuing solo projects. Kelly is proud to be independent and makes her own decisions.

"I can do whatever I want," she said in an interview with Jet magazine. "I don't allow anyone to put me in a box. Honestly, if I want to try something, that's what I'm going to do."

Kelly recently revealed that she is in the process of repairing her relationship with her estranged father who battled alcoholism when she was growing up. The star hasn't seen her dad since she was a child, but is planning to spend time with him this Christmas.

"I think every little girl wants to be a darling in her father's eyes, and I'm going to get the opportunity to meet my biological father, so we'll see what happens," she revealed.

"That's all I can say because I'm going to meet someone I haven't seen in more than 20 years. In my heart I have forgiven him."

As well as working on her relationship with her dad, Kelly has also set herself some career goals. She wants to work on new songs which will inspire other women and dominate the music charts.

"I want an album in the Top 5," she added. "I would like to tell stories about grown woman things - what we go through every single day in relationships and love, empowering each other." (C) Cover Media
