(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kim Kardashian defied tradition by throwing away the top tiers of her wedding cake, it's being claimed.

The 30-year-old reality star tied the knot with Kris Humphries in a lavish ceremony last month where the black and white ten-tiered cake was a star attraction.

But while custom calls for the bride and groom to keep the top tier of the cake to use as a treat for their first baby's arrival or another appropriate celebration, Kim's ended up in the trash.

"I was shocked when I found it," a worker said who helped clear up after the August 20 event at the $29 million estate in Montecito, California.

"There it was, one of the highest-priced cakes at a wedding ever, removed from all its glory and discarded s just another piece of trash. I couldn't help but shake my head and laugh."

The chocolate and vanilla wedding cake was made by celebrity bakers Hansen's and was said to be worth up to $20,000.

"Ninety-nine percent of brides and grooms do keep their top tiers," celebrity wedding planner David Tutera told Star magazine.

"The cake will certainly bring back memories of what you had. The cost of it doesn't matter they threw away a tradition."

The couple are currently staying in the penthouse suite of New York's Gansevoort Park Avenue hotel but they will not be spending much time together soon due to work commitments.

"They don't know what NBA team Kris will be on but she'll only live part-time where he is," a source told the publication. "She's not going to give up L.A. as her home base." (C) Cover Media
