Kings of Leon improvised lyrics for new album

27th September 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Caleb Followill has confessed he ad-libbed all the song lyrics on his bands new album.

Caleb is the lead singer of American rock band Kings of Leon, alongside his brothers Nathan and Jared on drums and bass respectively, and their cousin Matthew on lead guitar.

The musician says he hadnt penned any lyrics for the album Come Around Sundown in advance, which he later regretted because he felt it was a bit lazy.

"I didn't write lyrics. I went in and ad-libbed, I free-floated everything. The closer it got to the end, I felt like, 'Man, you didn't do your job, he revealed in the November issue of Uncut magazine.

Despite not feeling proud of his improvisation, Caleb added that when he went back to add some more lyrics he had gone away and written, his bandmates told him they preferred the original ones.

"I kept thinking, 'When I go back and redo the lyrics, then I'll get it. But when I went back in to try to do that, everyone was like, 'What are you doing? You can't change those lyrics. Those are the lyrics," explained Caleb.

The singer also admitted he hadnt felt particularly proud of the album until his model fiance Lily Aldridge listened to it and told him how fantastic it was. The fact that Lily was such a fan made Caleb realise he had probably been worrying a little too much.

"I played her one song, and when I did, she looked at me and went, 'What the f**k? Why haven't you played me this? What are you scared of?'

"Before you know it, we had listened to every song, and she just loved it, Caleb added. That gave me the confidence to say, 'All right, well, maybe I'm in my head too much. (C) Cover Media
