(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Nick Lachey comforted his bride Vanessa Minnillo in the days leading up to their wedding over her sorrow about her absent mother.

The couple married in an idyllic ceremony on Necker Island earlier this month and later enjoyed their honeymoon on the French island of St. Barts.

But the 30-year-old newlywed was overcome with emotion when thinking about her mother missing her wedding and not having seen her for 20 years.

They tearful scenes are from the couple's reality show that chronicles their journey to their wedding day.

In a sneak peek of Nick & Vanessa's Dream Wedding obtained by E! News, the television host informs the singer that she had found her perfect dress but wished that her mother could have been there with her to share the special moment.

"My mom wasn't there to try on dresses with me... and say those cheesy things girls think their moms will say to them," Vanessa lamented.

Nick pulled his bride in for a hug and told her that although "there will always be a void; there are so many people who love you and can't wait to celebrate this moment with you, with us".

After Vanessa's parents split up, she went to live for a time with her mother and stepfather in Turkey but after Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990 they were forced to leave the country.

When the then ten-year-old was taken to live with her father and stepmother back in the US, she never saw her mother again. (C) Cover Media
