(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Lady Gaga spent 72 hours incubating in an oversized egg before the Grammy Awards because she wanted her stage performance to be a rebirth.
The flamboyant singer is renowned for wearing outlandish outfits, such as the dress made entirely of meat she donned for the MTV Video Music Awards last year. However, on Sunday she outdid anything shes tried before by making her way down the red carpet at the Grammys inside a giant egg-shaped vessel, which was carried by her entourage. She then hatched on stage, before launching into a storming rendition of her new song Born This Way.
Gaga discussed the symbolism of the egg with radio host Ryan Seacrest yesterday, and revealed it wasnt something she simply climbed into before arriving at the ceremony.
I was in there for about 72 hours. It was a very creative experience. It was time for me to really prepare and think about the meaning of the song and get prepared for the performance. I really wanted to be born on stage, she explained.
The creative vessel was helpful for me to stay focused. We had it backstage so that I was able to really stay in this sort of creative, embryonic incubation. This is what I do, Ryan. I'm so passionate about this record and the meaning of the album.
The 24-year-old revealed her next single Judas will be released shortly before the record hits shelves in May. She then tried to explain the creative process she goes through while penning her records, saying her ideas always come to her in the form of a colour.
When I create music, I see music as sort of a wall of sounds and colours. Every song sort of bears this hue and this colour to it, and that's how I end up ultimately creating the performances," she said. "That was one of my most favourite things at the Grammys, the colour palate of the stage. I just thought it was so beautiful and that's really how I see the song.
Gaga was then quizzed about how she comes up with the initial ideas, causing her to muse about the differences between her and other people. She eventually spoke about what she thinks her brain must look like, and why she is so much more creative than her contemporaries.
There is a giant stiletto heel stuck in between my left and right lobe, she explained. Theres a few ex-boyfriends lingering in-between. And I would say an abundance of Francis Bacon and Dal-like references. And perhaps a little bit of Rainbow Brite and Barbie. (C) Cover Media
