A week ago, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt received death threats from an anonymous caller who claimed Rs. 50 lakhs from him and threatened to kill his wife Soni Razdan and his daughter Alia Bhatt if his demands were not fulfilled. Mahesh Bhatt took the matter lightly at the initial stage, but later he approached the Police to file an FIR when he received WhatsApp and text messages from the caller.

A leading daily quoted a Police officer saying as, "A case is registered under section 387 (causing a person to fear death or grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion.)" Mahesh has received such threats 3 years before and almost 13 people were arrested by the Police in November 2014.

The Police is currently investigating the matter along with Anti Extortion Cell (ANC).
