Co-anchoring with Cyrus Broacha, Malaika became one of the most prominent female in India. As she was already a part of the modelling world and television, Malaika then entered Bollywood by doing cameos and item songs, first being 'Chaiyya Chaiyya' in the film 'Dil Se'.

She garnered more recognition in the superhit song 'Munni Badnaam Hui' in the film 'Dabangg', which was produced by her husband Arbaaz Khan, starring her borther-in-law Salman Khan.
