(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Martin Sheen has likened his son Charlie Sheens addiction to cancer.
The troubled actor is currently receiving rehab treatment at home after he was hospitalised following an alleged two days of partying with porn stars. The decision means work on his hit show Two and a Half Men was shut down, and comes months after Charlie was hospitalised in New York after allegedly being found drunk and naked in a hotel room. He was holidaying with ex-wife Denise Richards and their kids at the time.
Martin spoke about Charlies problems at a recent film premiere, admitting he prays for his 45-year-old son. He has now spoken about his problems again, explaining just how serious the situation is.
He's an extraordinary man, Martin told Sky News. You know, if he had cancer, how would we treat him? The disease of addiction is a form of cancer and you have to have an equal measure of concern and love and lift them up and so that's what we do for him.
You realise we're not all on the same journey all the time. We have to love that much more. We have to be that much more present.
Martin was speaking in a joint interview with his son Emilio Estevez. The pair appear alongside each other in new movie The Way, which Emilio also directed. Martin plays Tom, who goes to France to collect his dead son, who passed away while completing the iconic Camino de Santiago walk, from France to Spain.
Emilio also worries about Charlie, and said he now knows how to field questions about him as they come up so regularly. You get used to it though. After 30 years, me, 40 some years, you build up an immunity I guess, he said.
Although Charlie is receiving treatment, he still has time for fun. He flew in baseball star Brian Wilson for a private screening of his 1989 movie Major League over the weekend, with several other sports stars also attending the party.
Yesterday, he rented a 100ft. yacht on which he arranged a private showing of 1975 movie Jaws. TMZ reports he was joined on the boat alongside the mystery blonde woman he is believed to be dating. Charlie is also thought to be seeing another woman, after he discussed having two goddesses at his home. Her identity also remains unconfirmed, although the website believes she may be porn star Bree Olson after she discussed watching Jaws on the yacht on Twitter.
