(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Mel Gibson appeared in court today in his ongoing custody battle with his former girlfriend.

Mel and Oksana Grigorieva began their legal dispute over 22-month-old daughter Lucia last year in Los Angeles County Superior Court. An agreement had been set, awarding Mel three overnight stays every two weeks.

Mel was not happy with his lack of time with Lucia and filed legal papers for it to be increased. Judge Scott Gordon will hear Mel's plea for more visitation time in a mediation session today.

Mel is also expected to ask Oksana to honour a visitation deal that would give Mel at least 50 percent parental custodial rights over Lucia.

Mel and Oksana have had a turbulent relationship since they became romantically involved in 2009. Their romance ended abruptly when Oksana accused Mel of domestic violence.

Pressing charges against him in 2010, Mel ended up pleading no contest to the misdemeanour battery charges in March this year. He was sentenced to probation. He has visited poverty inflicted areas in South America as part of his community service obligations.

The results of today's court hearing are yet to be revealed. (C) Cover Media
