Michael Bay: I'm no Star Trek geek

30th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - Michael Bay says the numerous Star Trek references in Transformers: Dark of the Moon were nothing to do with him.

The moviemaker is currently promoting the third instalment in the Transformers action franchise, which stars Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Ehren Kruger penned the script, and film boffins have noticed there are several references to the Star Trek sci-fi franchise in the picture.

"That was my writer, Ehren Kruger," Michael explained. "[He] is a Star Trek geek, so that wasn't my thing."

That said, Michael was involved in Leonard Nimoy's role in the movie. The 80-year-old Hollywood icon, who rose to international fame in the 60s playing Spock in the original Star Trek television series, provides the voice of Sentinel Prime in the movie.

"He's actually related to me. He married Susan Bay [the director's cousin]," the director told MTV.

"I was scared to ask him to voice. I saw him at Thanksgiving, and my mom was like, 'Ask him! Ask him!' I'm like, 'No, Mom, no!' " (C) Cover Media
