Michael Douglas to spend more time with family

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Michael Douglas is reportedly set to take a break from acting after his latest film.

The 66-year-old American star, who plays Gordon Gekko in new movie Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, was recently diagnosed with throat cancer and has been undergoing intensive treatment.

The Hollywood star raises two children with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and is believed to be keen to spend more time with his loved ones.

"This is a man in the middle of a gigantic fight. And he wants to conserve his energy and resources, a friend told British newspaper The Sun. "If he beats this he intends to focus on time with his family."

The Oscar-winning actor has started walking his seven-year-old daughter Carys to school and he also had enough energy to attend a few promotional events for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps in New York.

However, it is clear that the intensive treatment for Michaels throat cancer is taking its toll. He looks like he has aged ten years in weeks," a source added to the publication.

Michael has just one more treatment left before his eight-week programme comes to an end. Apparently, there are only check-up appointments planned and it should take the star six more weeks to recover.

"Hes really happy about it ending," Michaels publicist Allen Burry told People.com, adding that his friend "was determined not to have a feeding tube, and he didn't have to have one."

The star gave himself an 80 per cent chance of surviving the illness when he was first diagnosed. (C) Cover Media
