Milla Jovovich: Heavy dresses could be weapons

24th August 2010

(Cover) - EN Fashion - Milla Jovovich plans to use her costumes as “weapons” in her new movie.

The actress stars opposite Orlando Bloom and Christoph Waltz in The Three Musketeers, which starts shooting later this month. She plays Milady de Winter in the drama, and is planning to bring some of her Resident Evil fighting skills to the classic role.

Milla has been researching her elaborate 17th century dresses and has decided the heavy fabric could make the perfect weapon for her character to wield.

“I have been inspired for the film’s costumes by the paintings of [17th-century artist] Anthony van Dyck, and looking at those paintings you get a sense of just how heavy these women’s dresses really were,” the actress told the September issue of Gotham magazine.

“It made me think of those old Chinese films where the women use their dresses as weapons, so I am coming up with some very cool ideas about how to use my costume as a weapon.”

The Three Musketeers is being shot using the latest 3D technology and is expected to be released late in 2011. (C) Cover Media
