The Expendables 2 may be the biggest, bloodiest and most entertaining film of this fall. This one is directed by Simon West. The driving force is observably Stallone, who wrote and directed the first film, then co-wrote this sequel.
Stallone teams of mercenaries are the most visible squad around, with no apparent fear of being caught and captured by anyone. They're first glimpsed saving a Chinese businessman from a Nepalese warlord and rescuing Arnold. Shortly, the Expendables team throw away Jet Li after their first operation then head home to New Orleans, where the boss Stallone is surprised in his own lair by government hard-guy Church (Bruce Willis), who forces him to take a new assignment. Stallone and his team of tough guys (Jason Statham, UCF champ Randy Couture, a sturdy Dolph Lundgren and wise-cracking Terry Crews) have a new young sharpshooter (Liam Hemsworth) in their ranks and they're babysitting a Church operative, Maggie Chun (Yu Nan), who knows how to retrieve a mysterious package from a plane that's crashed in the Balkans.
But once they possess that package, they're met by a group of bad guys led by Jean-Claude Van Damme sporting a truly horrible fake neck tattoo who steals the package from them, leaving one of Stallone's men dead (Liam Hemsworth). Stallone and his acquaintances courageously tracked down the bad guy after Chuck Norris lends a hand and Arnold is “Back” to rescuing the team when the team needed them the most.
It echoes an unusual thought watching a group of aging action stars; literally you watch them grow older over the years by means of silver screen. They tried very hard fighting the ravages of time. If you dig a little deeper, Stallone and his crew may have rock hard muscles but their features (face) demonstrate the power of cosmetic enhancement. While it's good fun to see old friends or onscreen enemies kill scores of bad guys (led by JCVD), on a serious note, there will be no end on the ‘Chuck Norris Joke’. Expendables 2 will make you laugh whilst it is an action film.
The Expendables 2 is offering sufficient back to basics action entertainment to make it well worth the price of admission
