Naan Sivanagiren Movie Review

14th November 2011

Direction: V K Gnanasekar

Cast: Karthik and Varsha

Rating: 2.5/5

God of destruction

A spoon of Sigappu Rojakkal, a pinch of Manmadhan and a handful of Kadhal Konden is Naan Sivanigiren, so to say. With a lesser known team at the helm of affairs, the film which heavily reminds some of the yesteryear blockbusters makes no big attempt to impress.

Directed by V K Gnanasekar, the movie starring Karthik and Varsha in lead roles is the love story of an 'innocent' youth, who has a mysterious past and a shocking present. What future holds in store for him is what Naan Sivanagiren is all about.

A mixture of romance and crime, the film starts with a series of murders in the city. Married women are killed and cops go from pillar to post for clues, but in vain.

As it happens, Prabhakaran (Karthik) meets Anitha (Varsha) and slowly develops an affinity towards her. At a time when all is considered well, Anitha gets a rude shock to know Prabhakaran's real face, she comes to know that her love is behind the crime that has created havoc in the city.

Karthik as a youngster with a bad past (courtesy Sigappu Rojakkal) tries to emote well. He reminds us of Simbu of Manmadhan and Dhanush of Kadhal Konden. But if he could have added a little of his own touch, this would have been his best performance by far. Varsha is beautiful and she can make it big provided she gets good roles. Others in the cast are adequate.

Music by Manoj is average, while other technical departments are okay. On the whole, we don't find any wrong in the director making a movie getting inspired from blockbusters but the execution doesn't work out well. Gnanasekar tries hard to present the film well but could have given a little more attention to the editing and other technical aspects.

Despite a decent attempt by the filmmaker, Naan Sivanagiren is just a once-time watch.
