Actor, producer, philanthrophist... The man has done a lot in the 52 years of his life. Akkineni Nagarjuna, the Indian film actor and producer is turning 52 today.
Born on 29th August, 1959 in Chennai to Naheshwara Rao Akkineni and Annapurna Akkineni, the family later moved to Hyderabad. He started off his career as a child actor in the 1967 Telugu film Sudigundalu but that didn't stop him from pursuing his studies. He completed his M.S. in Automobile Engineering from Eastern Michigan.
He debuted through the movie as a lead actor through the film 'Vikram' in 1986 but he was truly established as a star after his 1989 movie 'Geethanjali'. His biggest hit was 'Shiva' directed by Ram Gopal Varma which was said to be a trendsetter and won him the Filmfare Best Actor Award. He later on worked in several films like 'Mass', 'Super', 'Sri Ramadasu', 'King' and his latest movie being 'Gaganam'. He also acted in various Tamil and Bollywood films. He was not restricted to acting. His debut as a film producer was through the 2007 serial 'Yuva'.
Nagarjuna probably believes in giving back to the society the way society gives him hence, along with his wife Amala he does a lot of social work. They are the co-founders of Blue Cross of Hyderabad, and NGO which works for the welfare of animals and preservation of animal rights. In 2010, he starred in an HIV/AIDS animated software tutorials created by TeachAIDS.
