Directors request the CM

A request has been made by the Tamil Film Directors’ Union to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa, to stop the death sentence of three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, who will be hanged at the Vellore central prison on September 9th.

Talking to journalists in Chennai, after a meeting of the association, it’s president Bharathiraja said that about 130 countries around the globe had abolished the death sentence.

Stating that a peaceful protest would be organized by mobilizing students against the execution of the prisoners, he requested the Chief Minister to immediately intervene in the issue.

Murugan, Santhan and Perarivalan, the three men facing death penalty for the 1991 assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, will be hanged September 9th.
