The Postal Department has decided to release the stamp of the yester year popular actress Savithri. Actor Shivaji Ganeshan has earned the name as Nadigar Thilagam which means to be one the most influential and greatest actors of all time. Similarly among all the actresses, Savithri has earned such a title. Savithri is the wife of the late popular actor Shivaji Ganeshan. Savithri was on her peak during the period from 1950 to 1970. She had acted in more than 300 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi languages. The films Kalathur Kannamma, Pasamalar, Pavamaanippu, Parthal Pasi Theerum and Navarathri in which Savithri had done the female lead role were great hits and are very popular even now. Savithri who achieved fame in acting has also produced and directed films. Savithri died at the age of 47. She had two children. At this point of time, the Postal Department has decided to honor her by releasing a postal stamp bearing the portrait of her. Actress Vijayanthimala Bali will release her stamp at a function to be held in New Delhi on February 13th.
