Just Another Love Story
Shravan’s debut film ‘Priyudu’ gives you a complete feeling of ‘Déjà vu’ with a clichéd plot, a ‘been there seen that’ storyline, and predictable twists. A mixture of most romantic movies we have already seen, ‘Priyudu’ has nothing new to offer.
The film is about Karthik (Varun Sandesh) who stays away from love and romance as he believes that it hinders one’s freedom and takes away one's individuality. On the other hand, there is Madhu Latha (Preethika) who is madly in love with Karthik. Both their parents are friends, and so the duo end up getting engaged to each other, with Karthik having no interest in marrying the lady. Karthik pulls in various tricks to get away from the situation and finally brings in Vara Prasad (Randhir). Prasad on Karthik’s instructions tries to woo Madhu latha. The climax too is as foreseeable as it can get, but the audience can predict and foresee a predictable ending.
Driving inspiration from Shirish Kunder’s Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta starrer ‘Jaan-e-mann’, ‘Priyudu’ too is a good subject that fails due to poor execution. The comic sequences added to it also do no good. There are scenes that are more unbelievable than predictable as the director has taken quite a lot of cinematic liberties in his portrayal.
Varun Sandesh looks good in the film and show decent improvement from his earlier films. But the actor still has a long way to go. Preetikha Rao’s character is someone who possibly doesn’t exist in today’s world, but the lady manages to make us believe that there can be someone like Madhu Latha. Although a few of her scenes defy logic and are not explained. Randhir is average and the rest of the supporting cast is also below average.
The entire reason for star cast performing below average goes to a poor script and screenplay. The direction too falls weak and more so in the second half. Mohan Johna’s music is mediocre while the background is below expectations. The dialogues and cinematography also do not do much justice to the film.
The story is regular with average performances, and can be skipped.
