The 44-year-old singer complained about severe throat pain on Tuesday and was rushed to hospital. Physicians at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago determined that R. Kelly had an abscess on one of his tonsils. The abscess was drained by surgeons on the same day and R. Kelly has been recuperating ever since.
Initially it was unclear as to whether or not R. Kelly would be well enough to leave the hospital this week. Doctors deemed that he was in fact healthy enough to recover at home, with a spokesperson confirming he has been released from hospital.
The singer has just completed the US leg of his worldwide tour for his critically acclaimed 2010 album Love Letter.
R. Kelly's representatives do not know when he will be healthy enough to resume performing. It is unknown whether this surgery will have any lasting effect on his voice. (C) Cover Media
