Rajinikanth's new magnum opus, 'Rana' commences shooting in Chennai from tomorrow, with a puja by Rajinikanth along with the cast and crew. Produced by Eros International, the film will be directed by K S Ravikumar. The budget for this magnum opus is estimated to be around Rs. 100 crores.

'Rana' will be released simultaneously in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. And the biggest clincher is that Rajini is slated to be seen in a triple role – all three different and striking avatars. Bollywood actresses Deepika Padukone and Tabu will be paired alongside the patriarch and Ileana D'Cruz will also feature in a pivotal role. Having gained fame for his villainous act in 'Arundhati' and 'Dabangg', Sonu Sood will play the bad guy here as well. Deepika will sport a brand new look for this film.

According to the director, Ravikumar, the film's strong story line, excellent ensemble cast coupled with super star Rajnikanth in a triple role, promises to deliver stunning visual effects that elevate Indian cinema to another level.

The music for the film is being scored by A R Rahman and the director of photography is Ratnavelu, with editing by Antony. It is to be produced jointly by his daughter Soundarya's Ochre Studios and Eros International. Soundarya will also participate as the technical director.

The film is scheduled for release in 2012. Eros International along with NextGen Films, will produce the film through Rana Production Ltd.

Rajinikanth's last magnum opus with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, 'Robot', was a box office success.
