December 3, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Film: Rakth Charitra 2
Director: Ram Gopal Verma
Cast: Suriya, Vivek Oberoi, Priyamani, Shatrughan Sinha, Radhika Apte, Asish Vidyarthi
Genre: Crime Thriller
Rating: **1/2
Ram Gopal Vermas second offering on the life of Andhra Pradesh politician Paritala Ravindra is disappointingly not as good as the first! Though Rakth Charitra 2 is a lot less violent than its first part, the audience should not keep their expectations high when they visit their nearest theater. Keeping in mind all the brouhaha surrounding the film before its release and news about the censor board awarding Rakth Charitra 2 an adult certificate, one should have expected more violence than the first part. However, it now seems that it was the abusive language which irked our censor members.
The worst part of Rakth Charitra 2 is that you will have to spend the first half hour looking at events from the first part of the political eulogy, because RGV begins by reminding his audience the events of the past! While the first part of Rakth Charitra had Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi play the central character, the focus shifts to South Indian actor Suriya in the second. When compared to Vivek Oberoi, Suriya did make a great job out of the character given to him, though he was not supported by a good script and a good screenplay. Rakth Charitra is Suriyas debut in the Hindi film industry. The second part of the political crime thriller which hits theaters today focuses all its attention on Suriya, the arch enemy of Vivek Oberoi in the film, and how he goes about seeking revenge from Paritala Ravindra, the character portrayed by Vivek Oberoi.
Though Suriyas performance was good despite a lackluster script, he alone will not be able to save the movie from its doom. Our take is that Suriya should have waited for a better script to make his Bollywood debut!
