John Abraham, the actor with the hot looks was apparently the original choice to play the lead role in Rockstar.

The much awaited release of this year, Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Rockstar’ which has Ranbir Kapoor playing the “Rockstar” could have John Abraham playing the lead role. Apparently director Imtiaz Ali, who was planning to make ‘Rockstar’ since the last six years, had John Abraham in his mind as his original choice to play the lead role in the film. However as years passed by, a fresh story evolved out of the same idea and Imtiaz eventually signed up Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role citing the reason that John would not suit the role any more. According to Imtiaz, Ranbir was apt to play the role of a young Delhi-based Jat in the movie.

Imtiaz, who first took up the task to make this film in the year 2005, explains, “The story has changed completely… When I took up the film again after the first attempt, I changed the character. I had started off with John, but now, as the story has changed, he was not required. The protagonist is now a Jat from Delhi, and much younger than the previous character.”

Meanwhile John too has been very supportive about the director’s decision and has said that Rockstar is Ranbir’s film which is coming out great and he doesn’t want to talk about the past.
