Nargis, born Fatima Rashid is an icon and is remembered even today with great respect and immense tribute. The lovely lady is regarded as one of the greatest actresses in the history of Hindi cinema. An actress with range, style, grace and an incredibly warm screen presence, Nargis is truly a leading lady to celebrate .
Born in Calcutta, she started her debut as 'Baby Nargis', aged six in the film 'Talashe Haq'. Her screen name, which means 'Narcissus', the flower became famous and she was subsiquently credited with that name in all her films.
Her acting career actually began with the movie 'Tammana’. In the 1940s and 1950s Nargis became the face of bollywood, she was seen in a number of popular movies which include 'Barsaat', 'Andaaz', Awaara', 'Shree 420' and a lot more. Mehboob Khan’s 'Mother India' played a defining role in Nargis’s career. Her performance did not only exibit her intense acting skills, but also her versatality, hard work and passion.
Nargis passed away on the 3rd of May, 1981, due to pancreatic cancer. Her death was moaned by the entire film industry, for they did not lose only a veteran actress, but also a person who had such spark in her that it could give light even in the darkest moments of time.
