Rihanna: Brown attack had subliminal effect

1st June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Rihanna says the domestic violence she suffered at the hands of ex-boyfriend Chris Brown had a "subliminal effect" on her.

In 2009 her then-boyfriend Chris was charged with assault following an alleged altercation before that year's Grammy Awards, and images of Rihanna showing visible injuries were later leaked online.

The songstress believes the incident had an impact on how she conducted her behaviour afterwards, although the change wasn't conscious.

"There was definitely something subliminal happening," she told the US edition of Cosmopolitan.

"It was coming out in the way I dressed, the way I did my hair, the way I talked, the way I took my pictures, the kinds of pictures I wanted to take. It was a very aggressive and defensive time, and that allowed me to start not giving a sh*t. I walked around with a very f**k-you attitude."

The currently single star also took the time to discuss romance, explaining she enjoys pursuing potential partners. In that respect, she considers her attitude to be relatively masculine. "I'm open to love, but guys should have to earn it. Because the minute they get it, they want something else. Men are like hunters they like the chase," she smiled.

"Actually, I'm like that too. I get bored very quickly. So if someone can make me laugh, that's the best."

The raunchy star also explained what turns her on. She often finds different things attractive in different types of guys.

"Hot and hung, but sweet will do!" she teased when asked how she likes men.

"I'm turned on to a guy by different things. It could be the way he looks. It could be his intelligence. It's really a spontaneous thing."

Meanwhile, the star has also been discussing her latest music promo for reggae-inspired track Man Down. The video begins with Rihanna shooting a man in a busy train station. She was thrilled to make the promo in Jamaica.

"I've always wanted to do a video here. Man Down is just a song that you can't do anywhere else. We need to be authentic. You can't get any realer than Jamaica," she explained in a behind-the-scenes teaser. (C) Cover Media
