Rishi Kapoor clears air over controversy

28th March 2014

Just recently Bollywood veteran Rishi Kapoor and rising star Nawazuddin Siddiqui were put in an awkward situation when a leading newspaper mistakenly pitched them in a war of words against each other.

In an interview to a leading glossy Kapoor was asked 'Recently Nawazuddin Siddiqui said it's easy to romance heroines and run around trees. Your take?', to which Kapoor had said, "I’ve read that some actor named Nawazuddin said that romantic heroes just run around trees! Even his forefathers couldn't have done the work our heroes have done, leave alone him. It's difficult to bloody sing songs and romance the heroine. How could he say such a thing? Who are you? Do you know that talent is needed to do all that? Ask Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar. Jeetendra, Amitabh Bachchan saab…! My friend, my dear Nawazuddin, I'm not demeaning your talent; I've heard that you're a good actor. I've even seen one or two of your films, in which you were just average. But it takes hard work to do what others are doing. You haven't done it in your life; neither will you get a chance to do it. And you aren't capable of doing it either. You don't have the image; you don't have the talent!"

Nawaz who was taken aback with the statement went ahead to clarify and responded by saying, "Like other actors, I should start talking to media only during film promotions. It was a personal opinion not aimed at anybody. I meant that one should bring in creativity and uniqueness to the characters they portray, something Rishi sir has achieved."

However, Rishi Kapoor was upset with the ill reporting of the leading daily and hence took the mantle in his own hands to clear the issue.

In his latest statement he made clear that he has great respect for actors like Nawaz. "I have tremendous respect for new talent. Nawaz is close to Ranbir's age and I would never deride anyone or be disrespectful to their talent," said Rishi.

Hope there's no misconception or ill interpretation hereafter.
