Robert Downey Jr. sympathises with Evans

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Robert Downey Jr. understood Chris Evans' initial reluctance to star in a superhero movie.

Chris originally baulked at the idea of playing Captain America because he didn't want to make another superhero movie following his role in The Fantastic Four. He was also nervous about being involved in such a huge franchise.

Robert, who appears in the Iron Man series of pictures, believes he and Chris are similar as they both also shared concerns about how to make a superhero film that can be watched by serious filmgoers as well.

"[Chris] has got a lot of nice qualities," Robert told Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of Captain America: The First Avenger. "As you know, having been in a superhero franchise myself he was a bit reluctant, so he tends to think about things like how do we root this in something real and entertaining. Because Captain America is the toughest one to do. He's an old fashioned guy, so how do we buy into that kind of sentiment in a modern world?"

While the movie is set during World War II, the character is transported into the modern world in next year's superhero epic The Avengers, which sees Captain America team up with Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk and several others.

One of the stars of The Avengers, Samuel L. Jackson, thinks the calibre of cast is "mind blowing".

"We're all getting it done, and having a great time working with Scarlett [Johansson], Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr. and the other Chris [Hemsworth]," he gushed. (C) Cover Media
