Robyn blasts music marketing

19th December 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Robyn thinks many music fans are duped by calculating marketing machines.

The Swedish singer emerged onto the music scene in the late 90s with a string of dance pop hits that were a hit the world over. Despite her success, Robyn believes she initially struggled to gain a foothold within the music industry due to considered marketing.

Instead of establishing credible artists, Robyn insists the industry was more focused on targeting the teenage market.

When I started out, music was so hardcore marketed to young kids. They were constantly bombarded with marketing about what kind of music they should like. And then those kids grow up and they realise these artists don't care. It's just a big music machine, she said.

The 31-year-old did go on to praise her supporters for bucking the trend and remaining loyal. The star now has complete control over her career which is an added bonus for true music fans.

"The fans that I still have are the ones who decided they still want to like music. If they're interested, they go on the website and get all the extra content that I've been able to create and make available through my company, where I'm the one deciding how the record is presented to people. That's what's making the difference," she added. (C) Cover Media
