Royal couple marry

29th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kate Middleton and Britains Prince William have married at Westminster Abbey.

Kate, who is wearing a gown designed by Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton, walked the aisle alongside her father Michael Middleton, with her sister and maid of honour Philippa Middleton walking close behind.

The wedding congregation sang Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer whilst the couple were joined together at the altar.

Some 1,900 guests watched the couple exchange their vows, with around two billion thought to be looking on at home.

Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, took the royal couple through their vows. Kate has not said she will "obey" her husband, following the precedent of her late mother-in-law Diana, Princess of Wales. Instead, she promised to love, comfort, honour and keep her new husband.

William, who told his bride that she looked beautiful as she arrived next to him after walking down the aisle, said the words "I will" in a clear and strong voice. Kate spoke more softly and looked nervous. At several points she appeared slightly choked with emotion as she repeated her vows in front of the large congregation

Harry successfully passed the ring to William, who had a slight problem placing the ring on his bride's finger as it appeared to be a tight fit.

Kates brother James then gave a reading at the ceremony. The 23-year-old delivered The Lesson - chosen by the couple.

The service is expected to finish at 1215. (C) Cover Media
