'Rush': Movie Review

27th October 2012

Director: Shamin Desai

Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Neha Dhupia, Aditya Pancholi and Sagarika Ghatge

Rating: 2/5

Unnecessary drama rushed into a story

The film 'Rush' which was supposed to expose the sensational world of the ever growing media industry, itself lacks the luster and the beat throughout.

The film revolves around through the viewpoint of crime reporter Samar Grover (Emraan Hashmi) who gets sacked from his job as a journalist from his channel for exposing certain facts that upsets the investors of the channel. Jobless Samar is hired by a rival channel headed by Lisa (Neha Dhupia) and is owned by Roger Khanna (Aditya Pancholi).

They give him an irresistible offer that makes him accept the job which obviously has its own frills that are exposed later. Samar realizes that Roger is greatly involved in the underworld and hence decides to return to his previous channel to expose him to the world.

In this quest, he runs for his life as many want their secrets to die with him. While Emraan plays the protagonist, Sagarika Ghatge and Neha play his romantic interests with different shades off course.

The film had a fair idea though it has been used a couple of times in films like 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani' and 'Rann', but unlike those, this film fails to even generate the interest like the two that are mentioned.

The film is predictable at every turn and disappoints with its monotonous take on the industry. The approach though is realistic but too cynical as the makers fail to show the better side of the profession as well.

The narration and the direction could've been better. Pritam’s music comes as yet another biggest disappointment in the film, leaving hardly any positive aspects for audiences to watch out for.

Sadly this is not the kind of 'Rush' one would like to go for.
