The 34-year-old has been appearing in films since 2000, but only recently found fame with Terminator Salvation and Avatar. The star admits his success has taken him by surprise but he is grateful for the help provided by his fellow compatriots. He particularly singles out Russell for the guidance he has provided.

We Aussie actors all know each other. Ive asked Russell Crowe for advice over the years. Hes really helped me out a lot. Theres no school that can tell you how to handle things like losing your anonymity, he told the British edition of Elle magazine.

Sam went on to reveal the advice provided by Russell has helped to keep him grounded following his meteoric rise. He believes subtle guidance from the Hollywood star has led to increased respect between him and his fans.

[He told me to] handle it with sensitivity. Its hard to ask someone for their autograph. So if someone asks me, why snub them? Theyre braver than I am and deserve my respect, he added. (C) Cover Media
