The director was blown away by the connection between Ryan and Michelle, admitting they gave him the impression he was witnessing a real love story.

I felt like I was making a documentary of two people falling in love. We really were able to capture this real chemistry, this real relationship, this real friendship that came with Ryan and Michelle really getting to know each other on screen, he told the American edition of OK! magazine.

The director was thrilled to have the opportunity to make a movie starring Ryan and Michelle, as he admires them greatly as actors. The project lived up to his expectations, and hes immensely proud of Blue Valentine.
