(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Enrique Iglesias says using raunchy language on his new single felt good.
The 35-year-old is famous for his romantic song lyrics and silky vocals, although he was concerned his new single Tonight could be too risqu for some fans.
Enrique pondered over whether to tone down the lyrics, but in the end he decided sometimes crude language can describe desires better.
"For me, the most important thing when I was in the studio singing it was, 'How do I sing this and not sound arrogant, like an idiot or way too out there?' And that's really what it came down to," he told MTV News.
"I did it a bunch of times, and I heard it back, and it felt good for me, the phrase: 'Please excuse, I don't mean to be rude, but tonight, I'm f**king you.' I thought I didn't want it to be one of those songs I heard on the radio and say to myself, 'Man, I wish I would have sang that.' And I felt it was one of those special ones."
Enrique changed the lyrics for his performance at yesterdays American Music Awards (AMAs) and employed the phrase loving you instead. The hunk doesnt usually use expletives, although he thinks for Tonight that turn of phrase was the only one that really fitted and he hopes people dont take it too seriously.
"There wasn't [any reservations]. ... The minute I put vocals on it and it felt good, I'm like, 'I got to go with it.' Because it's not that I was trying to push it; I just liked the song," he explained.
"Really, that's what it comes down to at the end of the day: If I like the song, the melody, the message. Some songs are supposed to be taken seriously; some songs are not supposed to be taken as seriously. This one, you can take both ways." (C) Cover Media
