Salman's 'Khandaan' goes ecological & social

2nd September 2014

Bollywood actor Salman Khan celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi like all the other enthusiastic followers of Lord Ganesh. Every year his family keeps the idol for one and a half day and the immersion ceremony is carried out lavishly.

The whole family walks to the beach to immerse the idol every year. But this year they made an exception. Instead of immersing the idol on a seaside, the family performed the ceremony in the building compound.

They apparently created a makeshift pond in their building complex for the visarjan. This is one of the innovative ways that followers are adapting to make the festival more eco-friendly as the clay idols dissolve in the artificial pond which is then dismantled and the water and mud is reused.

But apart from going ecological, philanthropist Salman had one more reason to change the plans. Last year during the visarjan he noticed that people who gather outside his place often unknowingly damage the property of the residing people.

To get a glimpse of Salman and his family, fans climb the cars and the walls of the residential area causing much nuisance. Also the fact that Salman was not around for visarjan he was worried about the security of his family, fans and the local area.

Hence he decided that it was in everyone's best interest that the visarjan was carried out in the private compound of his building.
